What dive sites will we be going to?

We plan our diving schedule usually only 2-3 days in advance so that we can suit the site choice to the divers and to the conditions too. We do try to make sure that fun divers visiting us do get to see a range of sites over their stay and if they have a particular request we try our best to make it happen – and we usually manage it. For several years we compiled a conditions report/ log book so we could provide our customers with an idea of what to expect during their visit, so feel free to have a browse.

Will we see a Whaleshark?

Although we do have Whaleshark sightings all year round, there isn’t any guaranteed Whaleshark diving on Koh Tao. There are dive sites where they are spotted more frequently than others, but it basically comes down to luck – being on the right dive site on the right day at the right time.

When is the best time to visit Koh Tao?

Master Divers is open for diving all year round. Our hot season is February through to May. Our wet season runs from October to January. April, May, Sept and October are when we see more Whalesharks. June is lovely and the island is relatively quiet. Christmas and New Year time, July and particularly August are busy. For several years now we have been compiling an online conditions report/ log book, so you can see what to expect at any given time.

Please note that the dive center is closed for the following dates each year: 1st January, 14th April & 25th December. If any of these dates fall into your intended travel dates, please contact us first before booking.

What size are the groups?

Our dive groups are no more than 4 divers per dive professional. This is deliberate so that we can offer top quality instruction/guiding and care without compromising on safety. There are places that offer bigger diving groups, but we like to offer a personalised service and support the needs of each diver – this does start to become difficult in larger groups.

Do I need to complete a refresher?

If you have not dived for six months or more, you may need to make a quick refresher. This will cost 1,800 THB and can simply be scheduled into your first days diving. You can see details of the refresher here.

You will find the refresher very rewarding and you will be completing it in one of our beautiful bays around Koh Tao, so you will get to see some fish and corals! It will give you a chance to refresh your knowledge and skills, and it will also give you the chance to reacquaint yourself with the equipment.

Do I need to complete another medical statement as a certified diver?

Although you will have previously completed a medical statement when taking any previous courses, you should review it in case anything with your health has changed. Conditions such as asthma and heart conditions can prevent you from diving. If any of the answers are yes, then please let us know a little more so that we can advise you on what you need to do.

Do Master Divers have a free pick-up service from our resort?

As we are based within a short walking distance to all of the piers, we do not have our own taxi, so unfortunately we are unable to offer pick up services from your resort. So you would need to organise your own transport to and from our centre in Mae Haad. We can of course, assist you with this.

Do you offer discounts for group/family bookings?

We’re afraid not. We’re very proud of our high standards and reputation for professionalism and safety, and we provide the best quality services, facilities and equipment. We cannot do this if we offer discounts and freebies. Our ethos is simply to be the best we can be and uphold the very high standards that we have become known for.

Do you include accommodation with courses?

Why are your courses not as cheap as some other centres?

On Koh Tao, just as anywhere, you get what you pay for. There are schools that are cheaper than us and there are also some that are more expensive. We are a mid-range priced school who offer many benefits (as listed here) that most other centres don’t/can’t, hence the difference in price. The best way to think about it is by equating learning to dive to learning other adventure activities. If you were looking to learn to sky dive, become a white water rafter or train as a pilot for example, you wouldn’t really shop around for the cheapest possible option. You’d choose the centre with the best safety, standards and reputation. Learning to dive should be no different…especially when the price differences are generally pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things anyway.
