As your first taste of tec diving, you’ll train with advanced gear configurations like twinsets or sidemount and learn essential skills including gas management, emergency procedures, and decompression theory. Upon certification, you’ll be qualified to dive to 40 meters (130 feet) and perform limited decompression dives—a massive leap in your dive career or adventure goals.

To enroll in the PADI Tec 40 Technical Diving course, here are the typical prerequisites:
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, and PADI Rescue Diver recommended
- PADI Enriched Air Diver
- PADI Deep Diver or proof of 10 dives to 30 metres/100 feet or deeper
- 30 logged dives
- 18 years old
PADI Tec 40 Course – Dive Structure
The PADI Tec 40 course is your first step into technical diving. It includes 1 confined water session and 4 open water dives, including 1 real decompression dive.
- Confined Water Dive: Get used to technical dive equipment in a shallow, controlled environment.
- Open Water Dive 1: First open water dive using full technical gear. No decompression.
- Open Water Dive 2: Dive with simulated decompression stops. No real decompression.
- Open Water Dive 3: Deeper dive to 30 meters. Still within no-decompression limits.
- Open Water Dive 4 – Max 40m: Real decompression dive with up to 10 minutes of decompression time using enriched air (EANx) up to 50%.
